Flexible regionalisation using hybrid Cloud Playout

CHALLENGE

DaVinci Learning sought a cost-efficient playout solution to deliver a localised version of its channel to a cable operator in the Middle East. Key was to achieve cost efficiencies but at the same time ensure a robust playout solution with multi-layered dynamic graphics and multiple audio tracks. Concerns were expressed regarding the use of the internet for channel delivery and the associated risks of an IP-only delivery to the destination head-end.

SOLUTION

Veset Nimbus is a flexible software based solution which can be deployed in full cloud, edge and hybrid (edge and full cloud) architectures. Initially, an edge architecture was used, in particular to address concerns regarding the potential reliability of the internet for delivery. Ultimately these concerns abated over time, and the architecture evolved into a hybrid configuration, with 1+1 redundancy being achieved with the primary feed from a fully cloud based playout being delivered to the head-end by Zixi, while the secondary feed is generated locally from an edge playout server. Both playout chains are fed from content cached from the same Veset Nimbus cloud-based library managed by the same cloud-based MAM and through the same web console interfaces.

Using the flexibility offered by the Veset Nimbus platform, DaVinci Learning can adjust quickly and efficiently to all new playout requirements. It can deliver high-quality dynamic graphics and multiple audio tracks. Users within the channel’s team have easy access to the playout platform through a user-friendly, web-based interface including configurable access rights – another area where cloud solutions excel over traditional “remote access” hosted playout.
