A New Era for Broadcasting

LTV is well known for long embracing digital transformation, consistently improving and upgrading its services to meet the demand of consumers as the industry morphs with each coming year. LTV has overseen the transition from analog to digital broadcasting in 2010, the adoption of high-definition (HD) broadcast in 2021, and with each shift in the industry, LTV has expanded and adjusted to better serve its current viewers and reach a broader audience both locally and internationally.

Some of the notable successes for LTV include platforms such as LSM.lv (a multilingual news portal), Replay.lv (an on-demand content library), and Visiem LTV.lv (a global channel for Latvian diaspora). All showcase LTV’s continuous commitment to accessibility, adaptation and evolution in modern media consumption.

In response to this influx of changing demands, LTV took a major step forward in 2024 by partnering with Veset to launch a Disaster Recovery (DR) TV Channel using Veset Nimbus, Veset’s flagship cloud-based playout solution. This shift was driven by the initiative to grow, expand and evolve – allowing for LTV to maintain operations under any circumstances, whether facing technical failures, security threats, large scale disruptions or even just rising consumer demand. This initiative changed the game for LTV and opened up a new era for modern broadcasting with a security-driven approach.

The Technical Solution

At its core, the mission behind this project was to guarantee continuity, embrace scalability and prioritise accessibility. By partnering with Veset, LTV was able to implement a fully remote, hardware-free broadcasting solution with Veset Nimbus, allowing for LTV to ingest media assets and live feeds, create and modify playlists on demand and distribute content seamlessly across multiple platforms. Being cloud-based, the infrastructure provided by Veset Nimbus eliminates the risks associated with traditional systems (such as hardware-based and older playout solutions),ensuring that LTV remains operational under any circumstance – no matter how dire.

With the implementation of Veset Nimbus into its workflows, LTV can now prioritise scalability and accessibility by managing channels globally, since hardware-based systems are not required to operate. By shifting to cloud playout in this way, LTV has removed the constraints of physical infrastructure, making its content globally accessible for fans and media teams. By prioritising scalability with Veset Nimbus, editors and LTV team members can quickly access content in an emergency, making necessary updates to assets, adjusting schedules and deploying live broadcasts for time-sensitive or mission critical projects.

A Future-Proof Public Broadcaster

For the past 70 years, LTV has held a responsibility to its viewers to provide reliable and uninterrupted service for the Latvian people. In times of crisis when time sensitive content needs emergency distribution, LTV has always delivered to the best of its ability – and by using Veset Nimbus, this mission has only been strengthened with additional scalability and accessibility features. Veset Nimbus has offered a cost-efficient, flexible and highly resilient broadcasting solution in comparison to the traditional hardware-based systems of the past.

By shifting to an OPEX (operational expenditure) model, LTV has eliminated the need for costly hardware investments while maintaining a robust, scalable infrastructure. In doing so, LTV presents a bright, robust future for media distribution, one where agility, accessibility, security and technological evolution go hand in hand. With Veset Nimbus, LTV is better equipped than ever to continue delivering high-quality, often time sensitive, content to the Latvian people – ensuring that Latvia stays informed, no matter the circumstances.
