2025: Looking Forward

Bring on 2025!

2025 has arrived, and with a new year ahead of us, it is time to look forward at what the future holds for broadcasters and content providers. 2024 was a rollercoaster for the industry, with seemingly endless amounts of new and innovative trends that are changing the way we see M&E and content as a whole coming to the fore. The question is, what does 2025 have in store for us? Is it more of the same, or are things about to get turned upside down? Join us as we talk through some of the biggest trends and movements to watch out for in 2025 and stay ahead of the curve this new year.

Is the AI Hype Over, Or Just Beginning?

It’s no secret that AI dominated the industry (and the world) in 2024. Starting as a new and interesting trend, AI has morphed and grown into a generative tool, automation element, workflow component and now a heavily-praised and debated concept with its own community of users and creators. Wherever we go, we can find some form of AI generated content, whether it be images, audio or simply some efficient workflow metrics, it is everywhere. But what does 2025 have to say about AI, Machine Learning (ML) and automation, and where is it going?

While there are many people debating the best use of AI, it is likely that the most productive and efficient application will be in the form of data analytics, user engagement and workflow automation. AI has some seriously impressive benefits when applied to tedious and repetitive workflow tasks; introducing a host of cost, time and quality efficiency perks when applied in the correct instances. In 2025, we will likely see more applications of AI in content delivery and cloud-based workflows for its automation purposes, where it will create efficient and smooth-running workflows, making room for more creative ideation and development in other areas of the industry. Having said this, AI is also becoming more efficient in other areas too, such as providing automation and creation abilities to minor graphics tasks, trailers and smaller projects. It is likely that we will see gradual and subsidiary instances of AI in a creation space, but for the benefits of efficiency rather than replacement.

What to Expect from Monetisation and Ad-Tech

2024 saw substantial and fast-growing movement in the monetisation and ad-tech field, with most broadcasters and content providers considering its applications for themselves in one way or another. With 2023 presenting a drop in the economic climate, many content providers were faced with the task of monetising their content and fast, which saw an increase in solutions on the market in 2024. At Veset, we launched our own unique in-video advertising solution back in February of last year, Veset AdWise, which addresses the concerns and growing symptoms of a transforming industry.

Broadcasters are experimenting with picture-in-picture, dynamic ad placement and even AI advertising recommendations in order to address this ongoing trend. We have no doubt that 2025 will see more growth in this area, with monetisation and ad-tech solutions becoming more intelligent and applicable to multiple instances such as live events, multiview and AI-assisted workflows.

Catching up With 5G

5G certainly did the rounds in 2024, with many broadcasters and content providers exploring what it can do for their content delivery workflows. On the other side of the coin, many have been suggesting that 5G is still on its way to becoming marketable in the broadcast and media industry, and that it is not quite strong enough to become stable and reliable in our workflows just yet.

The varying demands of commercial and corporate network distribution is what is making this distinction, due to the fact that 5G is strong enough to warrant consistent usage on a mobile device, but it is not necessarily reliable and steadfast in content workflows. The size and demands of these huge video files require extensive bandwidth and latency considerations, and many argue that 5G isn’t there yet.

With that being said, there are some incredibly exciting developments being made in the 5G space, and 2025 holds more promise for 5G than ever before. Offering a flexible, scalable and easily applicable solution for broadcasters and content providers, 5G has the potential to be something really exciting in the years to come.

The Future of Cloud-Based Content Delivery

Looking back on 2024; it is clear to see that 2025 is going to be one rollercoaster of a ride for the broadcast and media industry. With so many new concepts and trends being thrown around, AI, 5G and monetisation to name a few, the future of cloud-based content delivery is taking a major shift.

It’s safe to say that cloud-based content delivery will become the norm over the next few years, with new and innovative solutions coming to the forefront that address many of the previous challenges associated with its application. The vast range of new products, solutions and approaches on the market is creating a new and exciting world for broadcasters and content providers to thrive in, and the team at Veset are very excited to see where these new opportunities land.
